Diseases and Disorders of the Excretion System

Nephritis is an inflammation of the kidney. There are three types of Nephritis; Acute glomerulonephritis, Pyelonephritis, and Hereditary nephritis.
Acute glomerulonephritis usually develops after a strep infection of the throat or skin. Symptoms include fatigue, high blood pressure, and swelling.
Pyelonephritis occurs suddenly and is most commonly caused by backward flow of infected urine into the bladder and uppper urinary tract. Symptoms are fever, chills, fatigue, burning/frequent urination, cloudy or bloody urine and aching pain in the lower back or abdomen.
Hereditary nephritis can be present at birth. This is rare but comes in many different forms.
